Isn’t putting on a new pair of running shoes one of the best feelings?! I’ve been needing a new pair for awhile and I finally went and got these last weekend!

This is my third pair of the Asics Gel Kayano and I love them. They provide tremendous support and cushioning for being such a lightweight shoe, and (slightly less importantly) they come in lots of vibrant colors. I’m planning to dedicate this pair solely to running, and I have another new pair I’ll use for non-running workouts, walking the dog, wearing to the grocery store, etc.
Also, if you’re looking for a good place to shop for running shoes in the Tulsa area, I highly recommend Tulsa Runner. Between Logan and I we’ve bought at least 9-10 pairs of shoes there and have always had a great experience. If you aren’t in Tulsa, you can shop these shoes here.
In other exciting news, we also just registered for the Firecracker 5k race that takes place here in downtown Tulsa on the 4th of July! I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t run a single race since I broke my hip, and it’s been even longer than that for Logan, so we are really looking forward to it!
I’ve been trying to avoid exacerbating plantar fasciitis in my left foot for the last few weeks, and decided it was best to not run on it for a little bit. But it’s feeling a bit better and I have new shoes now (I am hoping this was the main issue) so I’ll keep you updated on how things go. I know it’s just training for 3.1 miles, but I haven’t been running a whole lot lately, so I’m ready to get back into it and have something to actively work towards and look forward to.
On Monday I ran an easy 2 miles. It was sunny and 85 and for my first run in awhile, it went really well! I definitely need to get used to running in the warmer weather though. My heel and arch did hurt quite a bit the next day, so I’m still trying to work out what stretches/home remedies will work help alleviate plantar fasciitis pain for me. Luckily I do okay with walking, so I went for a few walks this week too.
Logan and I also recently decided that we’d like to incorporate more strength training into our workouts, so we’re trying to fit those in and see where that takes us. Our apartment has a small community gym that we’ll be using when we aren’t running or working out at home, and we have a couple of different apps we are trying out for workout plans. Our schedules are also going to change soon with Logan switching to a new shift at work. I’ll be working out in the mornings and he’ll be working out in the afternoons, which is the opposite of what we are doing now. More details on that to come…
In the meantime, we are enjoying the holiday weekend and the warm weather! Happy Sunday
